You don’t have to be an outstanding athlete to start a career in sports. If you are crazy about sports and would like to make a career out of it, consider any of the below jobs. All you need is enthusiasm and devotion and success will be yours.
1. Referee or Judge
A considerable amount of objectivity and self-control is required here. If you know how to control your emotions and can be unbiased then this job is for you. The nicest thing about being a referee is that you will be able to get up close and personal with the sport's top athletes, of course, if you are good enough in your job.
If you can’t stop talking and screaming during a game then this is a good sign that you should work as a commentator for your favorite sport. The path is not easy but once you get there, it is a wonderful career to have. Getting paid to watch your favorite sport is not bad at all.
3. Sports Journalist
How do you like covering sports events? Interviewing the players, finding out the latest news, writing blog posts, shooting YouTube videos. etc... Sports journalism is very exciting and entertaining.
Coach or Manager
You may not be able to coach your favorite team (nothing is impossible) but you can still coach small clubs or college teams. You don't have to be a good athlete to be a coach. Jose Mourinho was below the average football player but still managed to become one of the most successful managers in the world.
If you are really into fitness, you can take a shot at being a full-time personal trainer. Personal trainers are very much sought after and the wages are very good. The most beautiful thing about being a personal trainer is that you get to be your own boss.
If none of the above sounds realistic to you, why not work as a sports teacher in a school? Not as exciting as the other careers on the list, but still a good starting point especially if you aspire to become a coach someday.
Close deals between clubs and athletes. It is more of a public relations job but you are still in the sports business. It is not easy at all to become a sports agent, but I had to put it on the list for the sake of completion.
